Course Description

The topic of true crime, along with crime fiction, is more popular than ever. In this course, students will learn to associate fundamental criminal justice topics with portrayals of crime in TV, movies, and online. Students will review basic CJ terminology, and read brief articles relevant to the topic. This material review will allow students to identify and question the role of media?s influence on the public perception of crime. The class will leave students capable of examining the role of media in influencing crime and justice public policy discourse. Students will be encouraged to select their own criminal justice media (a show, book, or podcast) as the keystone assignment for the course.
