Course Description

This course will address the first wave of Asian American immigration beginning with the arrival of the Chinese and concluding with the tragedy of the Second World War and Executive Order 9066. Other topics that will be covered include the Japanese, Filipino, Korean, Punjabi and Mexican American experience. These groups that arrived before World War II all have unique stories as well as similar struggles, which will set them apart from the second wave that arrived in the aftermath of the Vietnam War.
