PEDD 9607 - The Geology and Natural History of Yellowstone - Part B

Course Description

On line presentations will be followed by a 2 day filed trip to Yellowstone National Park. On the first day we will deal with the northeast portion of the park and the Beartooth Plateau. We will travel from Mammoth Hot Springs and stop at Undine Falls, the Petrified Tree, Tower Falls and the Lamar Valley. We will end the day at Cooke city and spend the night there. On the second day we will travel east on the Beartooth Plateau. Charles Kuralt has called Beartooth Highway ?America?s most beautiful road.? It takes us above the tree line to about 11,000 feet where we will see the Alpine tundra in bloom and many sparkling alpine lakes. Stops include Clarks? Fork Overlook, Lake Creek Falls, Clay Butte, Beartooth Lake, and Rock creek Vista Point. We will return to Cooke City at the end of the day.
