Course Description

Deaf Inclusion was designed to provide basic American Sign Language skills and cultural awareness to professionals who seek skills that encourage inclusivity of the Deaf community, specifically in K-12 and healthcare environments. This synchronous online course includes lectures, discussions, and labs. The last class will be conducted in person. Lectures and discussions primarily focus on the intersectionality of Deaf and hearing cultures, language, diversity, and oppression of Deaf Americans. You will investigate, analyze, and discuss common perceptions, myths and stereotypes about the impact of effective communication with Deaf Sign Language users as well as apply basic communication skills through the use of American Sign Language.
